Danish-American
Christmas Celebration
Each December, everyone is invited to experience a traditional Danish
Christmas party, complete with stories, carols, crafts, food, dancing,
and the Santa Lucia procession. And no Christmas party would be
complete
without a visit from St. Nicholas! It is hosted by Berea College's
'Resident Dane', who also leads classes in Danish gymnastics at Acton Folk Center for ages
from pre-school through college.

English Country
Dances
The Berea Folk Dancers host English Country dances throughout the year
except for the month of August. Every Friday, you can find them at the
Dance Studio in Berea College Seabury Center from 7:30 to 9:00. The
dance is free to all, and new dancers are encouraged to come and learn
the movements and styling that distinguishes this type of dance.
The group hosts a special event on the 2nd Saturday of each month. It
might be a potluck followed by an evening dance, a series of workshops
from a nationally recognized dance teacher, or in February, the
Valentine Ball. Price varies depending on the event. A schedule is sent
to all memebers at the beginning
of the membership year in September.

Contra
Dances, Oh!
Contraire Dance Association
The Contraire Dance Association
holds a lively
contra dance at the Acton Folk Center on the 4th Saturday of each
month. New dancers are encouraged to attend the orientation at 7:30 and
the dance runs from 8:00 - 11:00. Potluck refreshments are
offered at the break - feel free to bring your favorite snack.
They encourage new
dancers, callers and musicians with a monthly house dance. It
is held on the 3rd Friday of each month except for June, July and
August.
This is a welcoming, low-key and fun event, and is often
preceeded by an hour of family-oriented, kid-friendly dancing.
Oh Contraire also supports two annual dance weekends:
Swing
Shift is a contra and swing dance weekend produced in
January with our LexDance neighbors. The weekend starts in Lexington on
Friday with a swing workshop and contra dance, then moves to Berea for
more swing workshops, a potluck, contra dance and after-party till the
wee hours. To find out more, visit
