The Folk Circle Association is a non-profit
organization that acts as a clearing house for folk dance and recreation
in the Berea region.
The FCA, as a logical successor to the
Berea College Folk Recreation Extension Program that existed in the
1980s, plans and sponsors community-wide folk recreation events. We
sponsor contra dances, folk dance workshops, and other programs that
preserve the strong folk dance heritage for which Berea has long been
known.
Folk Circle Association leads the Berea community in
the following ways:
We
engage in adult, youth, and children’s educational programs
related to Folk Culture, including workshops, training activities,
internships and other educational projects. |
We
provide recreational and cultural opportunities for adults, youth,
and children. This includes festivals, camps, exchange programs,
and local community activities. |
We
collect, develop, and provide materials, publications and video
productions related to folk dance, music, and other folk traditions.
|
We
work with other organizations in carrying out educational, recreational,
and cultural programs for adults, children, and youth that include
the fostering of community volunteer efforts. |
